Early Years Foundation Stage

Throughout this stage of learning each child, irrespective of their educational needs, is treated equally. We promote effective teaching and learning to acquire the knowledge, skills and concepts children need to begin their educational journey. Children benefit from a challenging and enjoyable curriculum within a stimulating and attractive learning environment.

Nursery 2

In Nursery Two the children will learn songs, rhymes and games in English. They will learn early mathematical skills and important fine motor physical skills and some larger movement and motor skills. They learn the discipline of listening to English in a focused way in order to cooperate, share and communicate with each other. By Nursery 3 they will be used to listening to, assimilating and interpreting the sounds, rhythm and intonation of the English language.

Foundation Stage (Nursery 3 and Reception)

Children focus on six areas of learning:

  • Personal, social and emotional
  • Communication, language and literacy
  • Mathematical development
  • Knowledge and understanding of the world
  • Physical development
  • Creative development

Development and learning are holistic and none of the six areas can be delivered in isolation from the others. They are equally important and depend on each other. One activity or experience can help to develop skills and understanding across several areas of learning and development. Play underpins all development and learning for young children. It is through play that they develop intellectually, creatively, physically, socially and emotionally across all six areas of learning.

Key Stage One (Years 1 and 2)

The English National curriculum consists of ten core subjects: English, Mathematics, Science, ICT, History, Geography, Art, Design, PE and Music. There are objectives or goals setting out what children should know and be able to do at each stage. There is also a structured planning system which outlines the objectives that children will learn and how these objectives will be achieved.
