KEY STAGE 2

Key Stage 2 covers classes from Year 3 to Year 6. Our aim is to build upon the foundation skills that have been introduced in Early Years.

By the time students get to Year 3 they have started developing numeracy skills and started learning to read and write. We use a cross-curricular approach, which ensures that the curriculum is broad and balanced as well as interesting and varied.

There is a large emphasis on developing students’ understanding of the English language through oral introductions, speaking and listening opportunities and teacher-modelling. Our aim is to increase student’s level of independence so that by the end of Key Stage 2 they become motivated, committed students responsible for their own learning.

In addition to improving the academic achievements of our students, we are also committed to encouraging good behaviour, mutual respect and consideration of others. We believe in reinforcing good behaviour through positive praise and recognition and thereby promoting self-confidence and self-esteem.

HOW WE EVALUATE THE PROGRESS OF OUR STUDENTS IN EARLY YEARS AND PRIMARY

  • In Early Years and Primary we evaluate our students according to the guidelines set by the British system in Early Years and the International Primary Curriculum in Primary.
  • We also carry out formative evaluations after each didactic unit to evaluate the reading and writing.
  • Exams at the end of Year 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 evaluate their annual progress and help us to determine each student’s level.
  • Our Primary students can also take the Cambridge exams (Starters, Movers and Flyers).
  • From Year 2 (1st grade of Primary school) our Dept. of SEN performs diagnostic tests on students with suspected Learning Difficulties to target the best educational intervention.
  • Our students also sit external examinations with “GL ASSESSMENTS” to assess their progress and act if their performance does not reach expectations.
