A LAUDE BSV STUDENT, WINNER OF THE FIRST AMAZON NATIONAL VIRTUAL ROBOTICS COMPETITION

We are very proud to announce that our student, Rafael B., from Year 2, won the Amazon Cyber Robotics Challenge, the first virtual robotics competition in Spain, held on Saturday, 29th May.

“You made a gift on Amazon to a friend for his birthday and you have to make sure it arrives on time”. This is the premise from which the Amazon Cyber Robotics Challenge started, bringing together more than 1,200 children and young people from all over Spain to demonstrate their skills in programming robots and pass the tests designed by the organization.

Rafael, only 7 years old, came first in the category “Androids” of this national competition. He will now represent Spain in his age group in the international Coderz league, which will be held in September.

But that is not the only good news in regard to this competition! Our Year 12 students Pablo A., Javier P. and Josep M., also participated in the “Decoders” category of the Amazon Cyber Robotics Challenge. After a very close competition, Javier and Josep qualified in second place in that category.

The participants had to program the virtual robots through the CoderZ virtual platform, using a replica of Amazon’s Hercules automaton in a three-dimensional environment that recreated a real company logistics center, in which they had to deal with a series of missions and challenges to get the best scores.

The event, held virtually, brought together 350 teams with children between the ages of 6 and 17 from schools in different parts of Spain. From Vila-real, 200 students joined the competition.

“These initiatives are very interesting for promoting interest in technology among young people and favoring skills such as critical thinking, problem solving or creativity,” says Rhian Cross, Headteacher of Laude British School of Vila-real.

From Laude British School of Vila-real we want to give special recognition to our students and their mentors for the great work they have done. We are very proud of them!! Congratulations!!
